Spring clean your budget in 3 simple steps

Spring clean your budget in 3 simple steps

Let's talk spring cleaning...

Does spring give you the urge to just chuck everything (or a lot of things) right to the curb for the charity pick-up people?

It does to me. I am so "over" some of the "piles" that have accumulated in my home.

I don't know whether you are a naturally organized person, a somewhat organized person, or an accumulator, but after a cold, dark winter we could all do with a little "spring cleaning"

I'm currently going through the pile that has built up in my closet (I don't know why i ALWAYS pile stuff in there!), my kitchen counter, and my garage.

I don't teach home organization or cleanliness, but I do teach money and mindset. And I've learned that as much as we might think money and mindset are separate, they are actually two halves of the same whole.

Unstructured playtime...

What does that even mean?

It means that I’m not in charge of entertaining my children.

That’s not harsh or heartless. And I’m not a lazy mom either. I’m just recognizing my long-term goal for raising kids.

I’m NOT raising kids. I’m raising adults.

Recently I sat down with my numbers and took a long, hard look at what they were telling me.

And when I say “numbers” I’m specifically referring to my financial numbers. You know, those digits that follow dollar signs?

I know for most people on the planet those kinds of numbers can be scarier than a toddler with peanut butter fingers running amok in your house. Especially if you tend to ignore them most of the time.

For me, the panic I felt was a result of ignoring it for too long. When I finally dig into the details I worry that I might uncover a smelly, rotten, slimy mess.

Dipping into your Emergency Fund too often? This might be Why...

Every financial guru on the planet says the same thing: Build an Emergency Fund.

And we all know we need to. It just makes common sense.

But is your emergency fund functioning like it should?

Or do you dip into it over and over throughout the year? Do you feel like you spend all your Goal-striving energy on just replenishing the pot?

If you answered 'Yes' to the second question, then it sounds like your emergency fund is functioning more like a part of your operating fund.
